About the role:

The University of York Students’ Union is looking for a creative and technical Web Developer to lead the development and maintenance of our digital presence. Working 15 hours per week during term time, you will report to the Digital & Data Manager to improve the online student experience through high-quality front-end development. This role is perfect for a student with a strong command of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript who wants to take ownership of a platform. You’ll transform project briefs into functional web components, manage assets in AWS S3, and collaborate with our graphic designers to ensure the site is responsive, on-brand, and optimized for all devices.

Beyond writing code, you will be the champion for user-centered design and digital accessibility. You will use tools like Google Analytics, Hotjar, and Lighthouse to analyze performance and drive data-backed design decisions. A key part of your role involves auditing the site against WCAG standards and providing guidance to staff on creating accessible content. If you have a passion for problem-solving, an interest in frameworks like React or Vue, and the communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams, we want to hear from you. Join us in building an inclusive, high-performing digital community for all York students.

To support diversity of student applicants, we now offer the option for applicants to answer the main application form questions using a video submission as an alternative to providing a written response. If you would feel more comfortable submitting your answers this way, please provide your personal information on the application form, where you will then find information and guidance on what to include and how to upload your video answers alongside the application form.
