Here at The University of York Students Union, we have an exciting job opportunity to join our Commercial Services team in our bars and venues.

This role would be perfect for first year undergraduates although we welcome applications from any year of study.

About the Role:

We’re hiring team members to work in a variety of roles across our venues, below is a brief description of one of the roles you could join:

Bar
Are you interested in learning to pour the perfect pint? Join one of our bar teams! Our front of house staff take on the responsibility of looking after our lovely customers, encompassing anything from taking orders and running food, to shaking espresso martinis and serving pints. We want someone who will take pride in ensuring the bar is clean, the cellars maintained and our guests happy.

Cafe
Build up your skills as a barista in our quaint little venue, the Kitchen @ Alcuin! Located within Alcuin college, The Kitchen is a fast paced cafe, offering a selection of specialty coffees, sweet treats & Boujie Bagels. We're looking for team players who are interested in leveling up their hospitality skills, learning the ins and outs of coffee, and how to make our new range of mouth-watering bagels!

Kitchen
Do you have a love for pizza? Or maybe a passion for freshly fried gyozas? A role in one of our kitchens could be the place for you. Our kitchen staff look after everything back of house. From prepping pizza dough to putting the final garnishes on our Chicken Katsu Curry. Our Kitchen roles are the perfect opportunity to delve into the world of work and build your confidence, without the pressure of directly serving guests.

What are we looking for?

Prior experience - We’re looking for someone with experience in the world of hospitality, whether that be a fast food restaurant, or a slow cozy pub.

Flexibility - Staffing our venues can at times be difficult as we work our rotas around your academic availability. To keep our working hours flexible to your time, we may require you to help out in other venues, roles or times!

Communicators - Our venues are social hubs for many students & staff across the university, be prepared to chat to your colleagues and engage with our customers to ensure they have a great experience!

Enthusiasm - We think work should be more than a place you come to earn some dosh. We want you to have fun, build friendships and have a positive impact on your team!
