Reporting to: Student Support & Representation Director
Place of Work: The University of York Student Union venues, James College, Newton Way, York, YO10 5DD / Potential hybrid options
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Starting at £34,071 per annum
Closing Date: Friday 6th March 2026 at 12pm
Interview: 19th and 23rd March at The University of York Student's Union.
About the Role:
Our mission at York SU is simple - we provide representation, opportunities and run services for all 22,000+ students at the University of York. York SU is looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to lead our student voice staff team. You will support the continued development of academic representation, democracy and research; strengthening our student voice work by working in partnership with students to shape both their Students’ Union and their academic experience more widely.
You’ll help equip York’s student leaders to effectively represent students at all levels of decision making. You will build on and develop innovative partnerships that help York SU practice and promote co-production with students. And you’ll help York SU to develop and deliver a research programme that allows the organisation to fully understand our student members, harnessing insights and utilising these to influence policy and practice.
We are looking for someone ready to work within a team in a fast-paced, student-led environment. You’ll need to be self-motivated, flexible and able to balance competing priorities. You’ll bring sharp political instincts and an ability to analyse and understand the impact of external developments on students and the SU. The role is diverse, it requires an inclusive, deeply collaborative, innovative and thoughtful approach. You’ll bring strong project management skills and provide leadership across key areas of work while taking a hands-on approach and being willing to contribute at all levels. If you’re excited by the opportunity to harness the voices of students and contribute to an ambitious Union that’s working hard to empower, support and challenge to ensure that student life at York is the best that it can be, then this could be the role for you.
This is a full-time (35hrs/wk), permanent role to start 20th April 2026. We offer a competitive starting salary of £34,071. Join us and help shape the future of our Students' Union!

- You get extensive access to discounts and benefits
- There are paid volunteering opportunities

As a Disability Confident Committed Employer (LV1), we are proud to offer an interview to applicants who meet the minimum criteria** for the advertised position.
**It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people that meet the minimum criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high number of applications, seasonal and high-peak times, we may have to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people.
If you are invited to interview with us we will share our interview questions in advance so you can feel a little more prepared. We’re more interested in hearing about your experiences and ideas than in testing your memory, and so we want you to feel as comfortable as possible.
